I’m going to just come right out and say it.
I have a problem…
My name is Jax, and I’m a caffeine addict.
Oh wow, what a weight off my chest! I feel better already.
I’ve managed to curb my habit over the years, and get down to two measly cups of the black steamy elixer a day. So I take my coffee time very seriously, and it’s a bit of a morning ritual in this farm house.
But with this recent heat wave that’s hit us, it’s the first time in forever that I’ve been less than desperately enthusiastic about my first cup of the day.
More than one morning this week I’ve been standing bare foot in the kitchen with a clammy grip on the kettle while wiping my eyebrow with the back of my arm slumped over the kitchen counter, as I muster up the energy to reach for the coffee on the second shelf. Gasping like a goldfish as it’s been 25C already at 6:52 am!
Then it hit me. Like a wet (caffeinated) fish.
How my life has changed. For the anti-perspirant better.
Brew up some fresh filter coffee or make an espresso then let the coffee cool. I actually make my coffee the night before and leave it standing in the fridge over night. I don’t have time to waste in the morning, and neither do you I’m sure.
Bang everything into the blender then toss in an ice block. Watch for a few seconds as the ice block floats around a bit and reminds you of Titanic. Then start humming to Celine Dion…
“Near, far, wherever you are…
I believe that the heart does go on…
Come back to me Jack!”
Oh dear, we better hurry up and get some coffee in me quick!
If you like your coffee sweet then add your preferred sweetener. I use coconut sugar to give it an indulgent caramel flavour. But you can use whatever your preference is: stevia, erythritol, honey, or just leave it au naturale if you prefer.
Whizz it up till it’s well combined and has a little layer of foam on top for that all-important morning milk moustache.
Look how the early morning sun shines on the blender… It’s a sign from the universe. Coffee is good for the soul.
Then pour it into a glass over 1 or 2 ice blocks and give a little sprinkling of cocoa, at least then you can pretend that a sexy barista ten years your junior has lovingly made it for you, and handed over your eco-cup along with their number…
Uhum… Sorry about that, just went off on a little fantasy trip there….
It’s great served in a glass as a refreshing cold drink. But if, like me, you’re a stickler for predictable routine and you need your regular mug to get you through the day, then by all means serve it in a mug.
Especially on days that require this wisdom.
Or on days you need an early morning pep talk.
Or just because you need something pretty in your life.
Or just because black cats are the coolest cats in the world!
Or because you know it’s going to be one of those days then just cut to the chase…
Oh no! Please no! Not in an Ecoffee travel mug! Don’t make me get up and leave the house before sunrise! Pretty please?
